A New Lab Takes Shape

A New Lab Takes Shape

September 25, 2011

In August, construction workers at WHOI began pouring the walls for the lower floors of the new LOSOS (Laboratory for Ocean Sensors and Observing Systems) building on the Quissett Campus. When it opens in July 2012, the building will provide essential laboratory and office space for several ongoing large projects, including the Ocean Observatories Initiative, Martha’s Vineyard Coastal Observatory, Ocean Bottom Seismometer Instrument Pool, and Environmental Sample Processor Laboratory. It was made possible with $8.1 million in Recovery Act funding from the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
