Basking

The R/V Knorr soaks up the sunlight at a dock in Bridgetown, Barbados, in the spring of 2007. The Knorr docked in Barbados before heading out to conduct drilling operations off the coast. Richard Fairbanks of the Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory and his science team took advantage of the ship’s super-precise dynamic positioning system to collect sediment cores from fossil coral reefs.
