Bowhead hotspot

Bowhead hotspot

January 17, 2010

Stephen R. Okkonen of the Institute of Marine Science at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Guest Investigator Robert Campbell from the University of Rhode Island deploy a conductivity/temperature/depth (CTD) recorder from the 43′ research vessel Annika Marie in the coastal waters off of Barrow, Alaska. The investigation is part of an ongoing project with WHOI biologists Carin Ashjian and Mark Baumgartner to understand the formation and importance of a bowhead whale feeding hotspot in that region.
