October 26, 2007WHOI research associate Terry Hammar works to attach some lead weights to a release mechanism beneath the ‘dog dish’ in preparation for testing the new “long core” system on the R/V Knorr. The “dog dish” so named for its shape contains all the control mechanisms used to sense the sea floor and release the piston corer at the desired height off the bottom.
