Getting Their Feet Wet

New graduate students in the MIT-WHOI Joint Program boarded the research vessel Neil Armstrong for a 30-hour cruise to get their feet wet in their oceanographic careers. They were introduced to life and work on a research vessel and learned seagoing science practices and tools that they will likely use throughout their careers. They visited the Pioneer Array ocean observatory south of Woods Hole, casting CTDs, taking water samples, doing net tows, and observing Armstrong’s sonar systems.
