Join ROV Jason on a Mediterranean Mission

September 29, 2011

The remotely operated vehicle Jason, seen here being recovered after a mission, was designed and built by the Deep Submergence Laboratory at WHOI to give scientists access to the seafloor without leaving the deck of their ship. Equipped with powerful lights and high-def cameras, it has made hundreds of trips to the bottom of the ocean for an up-close look at wonders such as hydrothermal vents and an exploding underwater volcano. Join us for a Dive and Discover cruise this November when Jason journeys to the Mediterranean Sea to help scientists look for unusual life forms in sediment from seafloor lakes of toxic, anoxic, super-salty brine.
