Knorr's Final Mission

Knorr’s Final Mission

November 14, 2014

The R/V Knorr waits at home port in mid-October before departing on its final mission. After heading to the Mid-Atlantic Bight to support an installation of the Pioneer Array (one of the coastal components of the Ocean Observatories Initiative) Knorr recently headed to the southern Atlantic for sediment core sampling using the WHOI Long Core. After 44 years in service to the scientific community, Knorr will be retired at the end of 2014, to be replaced by a new vessel, the R/V Neil Armstrong.
