Local Science, Global Impacts

WHOI Geology and Geophysics Chair Dan McCorkle spoke to a group of more than 100 WHOI Associates at the annual Afternoon of Science in July. McCorkle described a project funded by the MacArthur Foundation to better understand how changing ocean chemistry, known as ocean acidification, is affecting nearby Buzzards Bay. Scientists will use the data to better predict ocean changes worldwide. WHOI’s Associates program was founded in 1952 to honor supporters who donate $100 or more annually. Associates are invited to campus each year to learn more about ocean science and engineering at WHOI.(Photo by Matthew Barton, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution)
