Rare triple junction

Rare triple junction

July 3, 2010

Arrayed around the WHOI dock in Woods Hole, Mass. are the three ocean-going research vessels WHOI operates—(clockwise) Knorr, Oceanus, and Atlantis. The ships are part of the U.S. research fleet, travel the globe year-round, and are seldom in port at the same time. The Navy has recently selected WHOI to operate a new ship, to be built by the Navy and delivered in 2014, that will help replace part of the aging fleet and provide needed oceanographic research capacity.
