Southern Snow Blowers

Southern Snow Blowers

September 5, 2015

In Antarctica, fierce winds blow plumes of snow out to sea, obscuring most of the 400 mile-long Ross Ice Shelf, Antarctica’s largest ice shelf. As the global climate warms, polar researchers expect windier days and snowier storms at Cape Crozier, pictured here. This is partly because warm air holds more moisture than cold air, and the extra moisture turns into more snow when the air chills over Antarctica.
