Studies of a Pristine Setting

Studies of a Pristine Setting

October 18, 2008

Sunset creeps across the shore at the Liquid Jungle Laboratory in Panama, a new, privately-funded research lab for the study of tropical marine and land ecosystems. WHOI scientists helped design the lab facilities, at a pristine site on the coast where jungle, mangroves, coral reefs, and deep water are all accessible to scientists from around the world. The WHOI Ocean Life Institute and Tropical Research Initiative have provided funding for studies of marine areas that are relatively untouched by humans, including ecology of mangrove and coral areas, plankton biology, and a permanent ocean observatory.
