Well Done, Atlantis

Well Done, Atlantis

November 29, 2011

Best known as the support ship for the submersible Alvin, R/V Atlantis (shown here entering New York Harbor soon after its delivery to WHOI in 1997) recently provided a much different kind of support. During the first day of a mission to explore deep brine pools in the Mediterranean south of Greece, the ship and its crew responded to a distress call and, in the proud tradition of seafarers throughout history, delivered 93 people from a sinking ship safely to shore.
