World Ocean Day

A humpback whale dips just below the surface in the Hawaiian breeding
grounds between Maui and Lanai. The whale approached researchers in response to their playback of a recording of social
sounds made by other humpbacks. (The research was conducted under permit #184
issued to Roger Payne by the National Marine Fisheries Service.)
Today is World Ocean Day, an occasion to recall that an estimated 80 percent of all life on Earth depends on healthy oceans and coasts, and all 100 percent of us have a role to play in protecting it.
