Lynette Brady Clarke
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of former employee Lynette Brady Clarke of North Falmouth on February 22, 2025. She died in Panama from complications from chronic lung disease, while on vacation with her husband Will. They celebrated their 43rd anniversary there on February 20.
Lyn was born in Natick, MA on March 20, 1953, but the family soon moved to Nyes Neck and she lived in Falmouth for the rest of her life. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1971.
Lyn took a job in the Chemistry Department at WHOI and worked her way up from Dishwasher to Research Assistant. It was there that she met Will, and they were married in 1982. They had two children, Chelsea and Raven. Lyn was a dedicated mother and left WHOI in 1984 to devote her time to raising her children. Once both of her children were in school, she went to work at the North Falmouth Public Library.
Lyn loved the ocean, and especially sailing. She was proud of the trophies she won sailing the family Beetle Cat in West Falmouth and she was never happier than when she was out on the water. She was an accomplished fiber artist and most recently took up weaving. Lyn loved flower arranging, iPhone photography, classic rock music, and nature in all forms. She had a gift for seeing the beauty in everything around her.
Lyn was easy to love and will be deeply missed by her husband William Clarke, her children Chelsea Clarke Sawyer and Raven Clarke, her son-in-law Justin Sawyer, and her siblings Kristin Ladd, Cynthia McIntosh, and Michael Brady, as well as her many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Angela “Robin” Burke and Duane Norman Brady, her brothers Eric and Duane Jr., and her mother-in-law Louise Clarke.
A celebration of Lyn’s life is planned for 2 p.m., on May 2, 2025, at Church of the Messiah in Woods Hole.
