M. Benno Blumenthal
The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution announces with great sorrow the death of former MIT-WHOI Joint Program Student M. Benno Blumenthal on December 15. He was 58.
M. Benno Blumenthal received his PhD in Physical Oceanography from the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in 1987. Arriving at Columbia University soon after, he was a senior staff associate at Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory when he became the International Research Institute for Climate and Society (IRI) Data Library Manager in 1997.
Benno created the Data Library at Columbia University. He is also being hailed for his contributions to IRI & the field of data science, and for his benevolence to others.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, December 18.
